The compressor and thermostat are two critical components of any commercial refrigerator. Here’s how to identify them:

 

Identifying the Compressor

First, power on the refrigerator. The compressor’s startup current is typically 6 to 8 times higher than the steady current. The startup time is usually between 1 and 3 seconds, and you’ll hear noise caused by the high current. After a few seconds, this noise should subside, and the compressor will return to its normal operation.

 

When using the refrigerator for the first time, leave it on for two hours without turning it off (due to higher initial heat load). After running for about 30 minutes, the temperature of the compressor’s outer shell (85-90°C) should stabilize, and it will maintain a consistent heat dissipation rate.

 

Correct Power-On Procedure

 

    • Step 1: Open the refrigerator door and turn the thermostat counterclockwise to its lowest setting (off position).
    • Step 2: Connect the power. If the refrigerator’s light stabilizes, it indicates that the power is properly connected.
    • Step 3: Turn the thermostat clockwise to the middle position. You should hear the compressor start running.
    • Step 4: Close the door and observe the compressor’s operational status. This process will help you determine if the compressor is functioning correctly.

 

Identifying the Thermostat

The thermostat controls the internal temperature of the refrigerator and is directly linked to the compressor’s working cycle. The thermostat’s function is to convert temperature signals into mechanical or electrical signals, which then adjust the compressor’s operation based on the desired temperature.

 

In a direct-cooling refrigerator, the thermostat is usually located in the refrigeration compartment. If the temperature inside the compartment is below 0°C and the compressor doesn’t shut off, or if the temperature exceeds 10°C and the compressor still doesn’t activate, it indicates a malfunctioning thermostat.
